Englishman Dele Alli netted twice with Christian Eriksen adding the third, but it was the performance of each player which impressed the manager.

He said:

We now belong in and among the best, not only in England but in Europe, and results like this help people to see that this is where we are going. What we have to do is move to the next level and that is winning things. We’re pleased, but it will mean nothing if we have not won anything.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane referred to Tottenham as the “better team”, which is huge praise for the team which currently sit in third place in the English top flight.

Spurs fans are optimistic after beating the holders and believe that if the team continues performing well, they can go all the way in the competition.

It is a big ask, but there are encouraging signs going into the knockout rounds.
