Going into their clash at the Bernabeu, Tottenham knew that after winning their opening two games of the Champions League group stages, their performances home and away against Real Madrid would go a long way towards deciding their fate in the group.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side put in a stellar performance in the Spanish capital, earning themselves a hard-fought 1-1 draw and courtesy of Borussia Dortmund only managing a point against Apoel, Spurs maintain their six-point gap over the Bundesliga giants in the race to qualify for the knockout stages.
Here are our player ratings from the game.
Hugo Lloris - 9
Lloris was fantastic. His saves from Benzema and Ronaldo were key moments in the game.
Serge Aurier - 6
Looked good going forward and helped set up the Tottenham goal but gave away a penalty.
Davinson Sanchez - 7
Looked very good and considering he hasn’t played too often, he didn’t look out of place.
Eric Dier - 7
Moved from midfield and into the middle of a back five, and he defended really well.
Toby Aldferweireld - 8
A lot of people think he’s the best defender in the Premier League and he put in a performance worthy of that tag in Madrid.
Jan Vertonghen - 6
Looked a bit shaky at the start of the game but grew into it and by the end, looked as solid as ever.
Moussa Sissoko - 6
Put in the hard yards needed to be successful against Europe’s best side but his use of the ball was pretty poor.
Harry Winks - 8
Was up against two of the world’s best in Toni Kroos and Lula Modric and looked their equal.
Christian Eriksen - 6
Played in a more withdrawn role and wasn’t really able to impact things.
Fernando Llorente - 7
Full of energy and put in a performance his teammates will be thankful for. Played a lovely ball to Kane with 20 minutes to go.
Harry Kane - 7
His presence caused the own goal, even if he might have been flagged offside. Had a great chance with 20 minutes to go, one you’d expect him to score given the form he’s currently in.
