Spurs signing frenzy on Transfer Deadline Day
After a slow summer of transfer activity, Tottenham fans would have been forgiven for feeling frustrated at the club for lack of ambition preparing for the upcoming season.
Links were made with some high profile names, any of which would have been seen as an exciting marquee signing to the fans including Mario Gotze, Isco and Michy Batshuayi.
As Deadline day arrived fans knew that these deals weren’t on the cards, so who was incoming?
The first signing to be confirmed as a Tottenham player was one which has been dragging for a massive 40 days, George-Kevin N’koudou. The young winger would have been confirmed weeks before if it wasn’t for the road block after road block in his saga.

N’koudou provides us with another attacking option from the wings who is comfortable on both feet which will keep defences guessing when taking him on. He is still a young raw talent with a lot to prove, so is there any better club to be for his development at this age? Repeating his previous season of 7 goals would be a great return for his development and return on investment.
Shortly after this announcement, Spurs announced the signing of Pau Lopez from Espanyol on a season-long loan.
Lopez has had previous experience playing under Mauricio Pochettino during his Espanyol days, so both manager and player have an idea as to what to expect from the move. This transfer leaves the question of what will be happening with Michel Vorm in the coming months?
Now we all expected not a lot of activity from Tottenham for the remainder of the window after these signings, confirming that the Wilfred Zaha deal was off and that Moussa Sissoko asking price was too high and he was off to Everton.
The final hour of the window came, which the fans jokingly refer to as “Levy time”. Sissoko was on his way to Everton when the news dropped that Spurs had matched their bid of £30m and nobody knew what to think! For around 15 minutes nobody knew what was going on but in the last moments of the window the player himself tweeted “Very happy to join @SpursOfficial for the next 5 years !”
With an amazing Euro’s but a dismal Premier League season, Sissoko has a lot to live up to with his £30m price tag. Maybe being surrounded by higher quality and harder working players will rub off on him and he could live up to potential as a “world beater”.
So over the window Spurs have signed a handful of players none of which are definite starters in the squad, but what these signings do mean is that we should have more strength in depth which was the main issue needing resolving in my opinion.
