Tottenham to beat Arsenal for Serie A striker
Tottenham Hotspur could be set to land Inter Milan star Mauro Icardi, edging out Arsenal in pursuit of the Argentina international.
Icardi hit 16 goals last season to be the Nerazzurri’s top scorer and the 23-year-old is one of the hottest strikers in Europe with 43 goals in the last two seasons.
And Gianluca Di Marzio believes that Spurs officials are in Milan trying to broker a deal for Icardi, with a fee of €45m being touted for the forward, with Arsenal and Atletico Madrid waiting in the wings.
Inter do not want to sell Icardi, but that huge fee would be enough for Roberto Mancini to mould his squad to be capable of mounting a title challenge, with the club finishing a huge 24 points off of Serie A winners Juventus.
Icardi’s goals helped Inter finish fourth in Serie A, but is only enough to see them progress to the Europa League group stages rather than the Champions League due to coefficient rankings.
Spurs, Arsenal, and Atletico can offer Icardi the chance to play in Europe’s premier club competition, with the trio chasing new strikers ahead of the new season.
Harry Kane spent most of this season as Mauricio Pochettino’s sole senior striker, while Arsenal will look for a more consistent striker than Olivier Giroud to lead the line.
Fernando Torres could sign a new deal at Atletico Madrid, but Diego Simeone may look for someone more consistent up-front to compliment French hotshot Antoine Griezmann.
